IRSC Softball Wins Two at Palm Beach State

IRSC took both games of a double-header against Palm Beach State College on Wednesday night in Lake Worth.  IRSC took the opening game 11-2, then completed the two game sweep of the Panthers winning 5-0 in the second game of the night.

In the first game, freshman catcher Maeghan Branche  would not be denied at the plate when runners were on base driving in four runs on two homeruns to lead the Pioneers past Palm Beach State 13-2.  Branche drove in a pair runs with her first homerun of the game in the first inning and hit her second two run shot of the game in the fifth.

Freshman pitcher Taylor Wroten (13-1) was the winning pitcher.  She allowed four hits and no earned runs over four innings, striking out five and walking one.

The Pioneers smacked four home runs in the game. Branche hit her 5th and 6th homeruns on the season, Macie Stanfield hit her 5th of the year in the second and Tayler Owen added her 4th of the season in the fifth.

Owen, Branche, Stanfield, Wroten and Brooke Mathews each contributed multiple hits for IRSC.  Owen led the way going 3-3.

In the 5-0 win of game two freshman pitcher Kasey Curent tossed a complete game shutout.

IRSC opened up the scoring in the first inning when Maeghan Brache tripled on a 0-2 count, scoring one run.

Clinging to a 1-0 lead into the seventh inning IRSC put the game away scoring four runs, on six consecutive hits, with two outs. The offensive onslaught was led by Ramsy Phillips, Jaden Williamson, Taylor Wroten and Branche, all had run scoring hits in the seventh.

Curent was brilliant in the circle for the Pioneers. She went seven innings, allowing zero runs on four hits and struck out four.

IRSC collected eight hits with Branche and Kirsty Granville leading the way with two hits each.

The 34-1 Pioneers travel to Miami to take on Miami Dade College on Saturday.  Game times on the Miami Dade South Campus are at 1:00 and 3:00.
