Indian River State College softball wins Four of Five Games at Conference Tournament

Indian River State College opened the 2020 Southern Conference season this past weekend winning four of five games in the opening round of conference play.  IRSC defeated Broward State College, Palm Beach State, Miami Dade and ASA of Miami.  The only loss on the team's season record came on Sunday, a 4-1 loss to Eastern Florida.

In the opening game IRSC had everything working on Friday, winning big over Broward College 9-1. The Pioneers got things started in the first inning when Kirsty Granville hit a solo homer.

Kasey Curent was dominant in the circle. She surrendered one run on three hits over five innings, striking out nine.

"The River" socked two home runs in the game. Granville' homer in the first inning and Taylor Owen's long ball in the fourth inning.  IRSC tallied 12 hits.  Owen, Meaghan Branche, Granville and Tayor Wroten all had multiple hits.  Granville led the way going 3-3.

In the first game on Saturday IRSC defeated Palm Beach State 19-0. Betsy Ingle led the way by driving in six runs. She went 3-for-4 at the plate, drove in 6 runs, and hit two homeruns.

Taylor Wroten 10-0 was in the pitcher's circle for IRSC.  She lasted four innings, allowing zero hits and zero runs while striking out eight and walking one.

Against Miami Dade the Pioneers put up seven runs in the second on its way to a 12-1 victory. The offense in the big inning was led by Betsy Ingle, Jaden Williamson, Kirst Granville, Maeghan Branche, and Brooke Mathews, all driving in runs for IRSC.

Jaden Williamson 10-0 went five innings, allowing one hit and one run while striking out seven and walking one.

In the opening game on Sunday the Pioneers dropped their first game of the season losing to Eastern Florida 4-1. Taylor Wroten went six innings, allowing six hits, four runs, and struck out six. Brooke Mathews led the way on offense with two hits, driving in the team's only run of the game with a homerun.

In the team's final game of the weekend the Pioneers defeated ASA College of Miami 10-0. Macie Stanfield led the way on offense by driving in four runs. She went 2-for-3 at the plate, on a single in the third and a home run in the fourth.

Starting pitcher Kasey Curent surrendered zero runs on two hits over three innings, striking out eight.

 

The 26-1 Pioneers take on Sinclair Community College on Tuesday in Ft. Pierce.  Game times at the IRSC Softball Complex are 2:00 and 4:00.
