Indian River State College Softball Remains Perfect With Four Wins at Seminole State College Invitational

The IRSC Women's softball team raised its season record to 22-0 on the season with four wins at the Seminole State College Invitational Tournament this past weekend at Soldiers Creek Park in Longwood.  On Saturday the Pioneers defeated Santa Fe State College 6-5 and St. Johns River State College 5-0.  In Sunday IRSC won the opening game of the day against Gulf Coast State College 6-5 and won game two 6-1 over Tallahassee Community College.

In the 6-5 win over Santa Fe the Pioneers came back from a 5-0 deficit to win in extra innings.  Freshman pitcher Taylor Wroten (8-0) went eight innings, allowing five runs on three hits and striking out two. Freshman shortstop Tayler Owen led the offense with two hits in four at bats.

Freshman pitcher Kasey Curent (4-0) threw a gem on Saturday for the Pioneers, allowing no runs and struck out seven in the 5-0 win.

IRSC opened the scoring when Kirsty Granville doubled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run. The Pioneers added four more runs in the second inning. The offense in the inning was led by Tayler Owen, Taylor Wroten, and Maeghan Branche, all driving in runs in the inning. Owen launched her second home run on the season, a two run shot deep over the left field fence.

"The River" racked up ten hits in the game. Ramsy Phillips and Jaden Williamson each had multiple hits for IRSC.  Ramsy led the way going 3-for-3 at the plate.

Once again on Sunday the Pioneers had to come from behind to defeat Gulf Coast 6-5. The game was tied at five with IRSC batting in the top of the sixth when pitcher Jaden Williamson singled on a 2-0 count, scoring the go ahead run. Williamson (9-0) was in the circle for IRSC. She went seven innings, allowing 12 hits and five runs while striking out seven. The Pioneers had 11 hits in the game. Kirsty Granville, Morgan Roberts, Tayler Owen, and Williamson each collected two hits to lead offense.

In the 6-1 win over TCC Kirsty Granville drove in five runs on three hits. Granville drove in runs on a home run in the first, a single in the second, and a single in the fourth. Taylor Wroten (9-0) was in the circle for the Pioneers. She allowed five hits and one run over seven innings, striking out five. IRSC collected nine hits on the day. Granville and Jaden Williamson had multiple hits for "The River."

The 23-0 Pioneers open conference play on Friday taking on Broward College at 1:00.  On Saturday the Pioneers play Palm Beach State at 11:00 and Miami Dade at 1:00.  Sunday IRSC opens the day taking on Eastern Florida at 10:00 and closes the weekend playing ASA College at 12:00.

All games will be played at Pineapple Park, 3102 NW Hillman Drive, in Jensen Beach.  Admission into the park is free.
