IRSC Softball Takes Two from Polk State

Indian River State College won both games of a double-header on Saturday in Ft. Pierce against Polk State.  IRSC won the opening game 6-2 and completed the sweep of the visiting Eagles winning game two 9-1.

In the opening game of the day IRSC got on the board in the first inning. IRSC scored on a double by Kirsty Granville.

The Pioneers pulled away for good scoring single runs in the third and fourth innings, and three more in the sixth. Shayne Hewitt, Jaden Williamson and Taylor Wroten had run scoring hits for the Pioneers in the three run sixth inning.

Freshman pitcher Jaden Williamson (7-0) got the start for Indian River.  She went seven innings, allowing two runs, one earned, on eight hits and struck out nine.

Wroten, Macie Stanfield, Tayler Owen, Hewitt, Granville, and Maeghan Branche each collected one hit each to lead Pioneer offense. 

In game two IRSC tied the game at one in the bottom of the first inning, when Maeghan Branche singled on a 2-2 count, scoring the Pioneers first run of the game.

IRSC pulled away for good with two runs in the third inning. In the third Macie Stanfield doubled on the first pitch she saw, driving in two runs for "The River."

The Pioneer offense continued to roll scoring four more runs in the fourth inning.  Kirsty Granville, Taylor Wroten and Morgan Roberts each had RBIs in the big inning.

Freshman pitcher Kasey Curent (3-0) was dominant in the circle for the Pioneers. She went six innings, allowed four hits, one run, struck out eight, and didn't walk a batter.

IRSC collected 11 hits in the game. Roberts and Stanfield each collected two hits to lead the offense. The 16-0 Pioneers travel to Winter Haven on Wednesday to take on Polk State. Game times are 4:00 & 6:00.
