IRSC Men Are Southern Conference Champs

Fort Pierce, Florida – For the second time in the last three years the Indian River State College (IRSC) Men's Basketball Team are Southern Conference Champions. They defeated Broward College 102-68 in front of a large and vocal home crowd.   "This team has gone through some adversity, but have stuck together and found ways to win," stated a proud IRSC Head Coach Charlie Wilson. The Pioneers' overall record is 21-7 and 10-1 in conference play with one conference game remaining.

Broward College held an early 9-5 advantage, but it didn't take long for the hot-shooting IRSC team to get things going. They went on an 8-0 run and led 13-9 after a Miles Coleman three-point basket with 15:01 remaining in the first half.  The lead quickly swelled to ten and increased to 20 points in about four minutes when Antrell Charlton hit one of his four three-point baskets, making the score 37-15.  The Pioneers kept up the pressure and cruised into the half with the score being 56-26.

There was no let down after the half as IRSC took charge with a 10-0 run and put the game out of reach, 66-26.   The lead remained comfortable for the rest of the contest as the Pioneers defeated Broward College, 102-68.  Charlton had a big offensive game for IRSC by shooting a perfect nine for nine, four of four from the three-point line, for a game high 24 points.  Coleman added 21 points, followed by Drew LaMont 16, and Linton Brown tossed in 13.  DeJuan Locket led the team with 10 rebounds and A.J. Cujuste dished out a game high 8 assists.

This was the last home game for the team and the sophomores, Miles Coleman, Drew LaMont, Tadre Morse, DeJuan Lockett, Jai Clark, and Daniel Anozie were recognized for their contribution to the men's basketball program.  "I'm really proud of this group and their accomplishments, they have had a big impact on our program," stated Coach Wilson.

IRSC will travel to Miami, Florida, this Saturday to take on Miami Dade College for their last regular season game before heading to the National Junior College Athletic Association Region VIII Men's Basketball Tournament.  The tournament this year will be held on the campus of Northwest Florida State College in Niceville.
