Pioneers Move To 7-1 In The Southern Conference

Fort Pierce, Florida – It was good to be back home for the Indian River State College (IRSC) Men's basketball team as they recovered their winning ways defeating Miami Dade College, 89-71.  Miami Dade College scored the first basket of the game and that was the only lead they held throughout the contest.  The Pioneers took a 32-25 lead when Tadre Morris connected on a three-point shot from the wing.  IRSC increased their lead to 14 points with 5:28 when Tanahj Pettway hit a three-point basket making the score 45-31.  Miami Dade went on an 11-1 run before the half and pulled the score to 48-44. 

The second half saw both teams struggle offensively before the Pioneers increased the lead to double digits, 59-48.  Miles Coleman made a three-point basket, and the margin was back to 14 points, 82-68 with just over five minutes remaining.  IRSC kept up the defensive pressure and went on to an 89-71 win.  The victory raised their overall record to 18-7 and 7-1 in the Southern Conference.  Miles Coleman had a big night scoring 19 points, pulling in 10 rebounds and dishing out seven assists.  Other scorers for the Pioneers were Drew Lamont also with 19, Morris 13, Jai Clark 12, and Pettway tossed in 10 points.

IRSC will take the court again on February 12th when they play Palm Beach State College.  The game will be held at the Fort Peirce campus of IRSC and tip-off will be at 7:30 p.m.
