IRSC Men Move to 4-0 In The Southern Conference, Win Streak At Eleven

Miami, Florida – The Indian River State College Men's Basketball Team continue to find ways to win games as they defeated Miami Dade College 78-75.  The win moved their Southern Conference record to 4-0 and 15-6 over-all.  "Miami Dade is always a tough place to play, our guys found a way to get it done," pointed out IRSC Men's Basketball Head Coach Charlie Wilson. 

The game had multiple lead changes with Miami Dade holding on to 43-40 advantage at the half.  Miami Dade hit a three-pointer on their second possession of the second half increasing the margin to six, 46-40.  They would hold the lead for almost 8 minutes in the second half before the Pioneers got on track offensively and took back the lead with 12:36 remaining, 57-55.  Tanahj Pettway connected on back to back three-point baskets, giving IRSC their biggest lead of the game, 65-55. 

Miami Dade was not going away easily, as they went on a 12-0 run and recaptured the lead, 67-65.  Two three-point baskets by Drew LaMont and Jai Clark put IRSC back on top, 73-70.  IRSC held a two-point lead, 75-73 with just under a minute to go.  Antrell Charlton hit his biggest three-point shot of his career giving the Pioneers a 78-73 lead with just 49 seconds to go.  IRSC fouled Miami Dade on a three-point attempt and they made two out of three free-throws, making the score 78-75.  The Pioneers were able to hold on to the lead, even though they were unable to convert their late game free-throws.   

Pettway led the scoring for IRSC with 23, Miles Coleman 20, and DeJuan Lockett with 11.  Charlton led the team in rebounding (11) and assists (7).  The Pioneers will try and keep their winning streak going next Saturday, January 25th at 4 pm. when they travel to Palm Beach State College.
