Indian River State College Men’s Basketball Team Win Their 17th Game

The Pioneers came away with a 105-85 win.  It was the fifth time this season that IRSC scored 100 points in a game. 

The game went back and forth early with IRSC taking the lead several times, but Miami Dade continued to push the pace of game and connected of 11 three-point attempts.  Tying the score 53-53 at the half.  "They are a good shooting team, and we allowed them to get some really good looks at the basket in the first half," commented Head Coach Charlie Wilson.  Willy Nunez (6'6" Shooting Guard) had the hot hand in the first half scoring 20 of his game high 28 points.

IRSC came out strong in the second half and capitalized on several fast break opportunities.  Shaun Willett (6'4" Guard) and Andrew Anderson (6'5" Forward) did a great job of attacking the basket in the second half with both tallying 18 points for the game.  "Our guys did a much better job of distributing the basketball in the second half and eliminating some of the careless turnovers," pointed out Coach Wilson.

Willett and Anderson did a great job of rebounding as well as they collected 11 and 8 respectably.  Shaq Rombley (6'8" Forward) was a recipient of several passes from Willett, including a nice lob pass for a slam dunk. Rombley scored 14 points on 7-9 shooting and collected 7 rebounds in the contest.  Point guard Eli Farley also scored in double digits for the Pioneers with 12 points and dished out 10 assists.

 

IRSC improved their record to 17-8 overall and 8-4 in the conference.  They will be at home to take on Eastern Florida State College on February 15th for a 5:30 tip-off.
