Pioneers Suffer Tough Loss at Home Against Polk

The Pioneers of Indian River State College are ready to protect their home court against conference opponent Polk State. This is the first meeting of these two teams due to being rescheduled thanks to hurricane Ian. Polk and IRSC are both competing to secure the final spot in the State Tournament in November.

The first set would start with Polk serving and it was very competitive through the beginning, with both teams siding out effectively. The Eagles would jump ahead though after getting a few big blocks from their front line. The Pioneers fought hard but were unable to find space around the large block of the eagles and would drop the first set 25-18

The second set started much in the way of standard Pioneer fashion, as they put their foot on the pedal and game out very focused and fierce, and found themselves up 11-8 with Polk calling a timeout. However that would be the last that would go in the favor of the Pioneers in this set, and really the whole match. Things just weren't going right for the Pioneers, all the blocks were covered, and the block touches were getting dug. They would fall in the second 25-20.

After losing their lead and in the second, they looked to rally in the third. However, Polk's momentum mixed with some very poor officiating would result in the Pioneers trying to fight back from a double digit deficit, a goal that would prove out of reach. The Eagles finished the sweep with a third set score of 25-13.

The Pioneers host FSW at home on Thursday at 5:30 PM.
