Volleyball Captures a Victory Against Morton College

The Pioneers return to their home floor looking to add a couple wins to their record with a couple non-conference opponents this lovely Saturday afternoon. The first challenger was Morton College, who was looking for payback after being swept last year.

The Pioneers were clearly looking to finish the day quickly as they came out serving very aggressive with several aces in the first part of the game, and they took a commanding lead in set 1. Behind the 5 aces of Saray Rios and Greta Klotz, the Pioneers made short work of Morton in the first set, winning 25-13.

The second set would start similarly with IRSC jumping out to an early lead, however Morton was warming up and started to fight back. Closing the gap on an early lead, the Pioneers would maintain a 5 point lead throughout most of the set. They were able to stay the Morton comeback and take set 2, 25-20.

The 3rd set started and it looked to be a very similar story to the first two, creating a huge buffer and going up nearly 10 points. It looked to be a clean sweep but Morton had different plans. A few untimely errors from the Pioneers with some outstanding defense efforts from Morton and all of a sudden we had a 23-23 tie game. After missing an opportunity to close the match, the Pioneers would make back to back errors to drop the 3rd set with a final score of 23-25.

Now the Pioneer would have to fight through a newly fueled Morton team and it looked rough after starting with a few receiving errors. However, behind the 12 kills and 10 digs of  sophomore Greta Klotz and the 9 kills from freshman Daphne Wibranowski, the Pioneers were able to rally and fight through to a 4th set and match victory, winning the last set 25-22.

Up next the Pioneers would take on non-conference opponent, Webber International JV
