Indian River gets big 5 set win on the road

After a tough week against two highly ranked opponents, the Pioneers were looking to get a win and get back on track at Polk St. This would be the second meeting of the two teams this year, the first one being the opening match of the conference season. This would be a heated matchup, both teams have similar records and are fighting for a spot in the State Tournament.

The first set began and it was a pretty standard appearance for the River on a road game, they come out flat and looked outmatched early. They would settle down as the set would progress and even made a big push at the end to tie, but ultimately came up short and lost 22-25.

The story would shift for the next two sets however as the Pioneers came out with a new fire and handled the Eagles without much trouble. The Pioneers would take a 2-1 lead after winning the second and third sets (25-15) (25-13). After taking this set lead, a little bit of complacency invaded the ranks of the Pioneers. The beginning of the fourth set arrived and the Pioneers were back to flat again. They began with some poor passing and then struggled to get past the large block from the Polk middles, and it wouldn't improve much before losing the fourth set (14-25).

Down to the final set with a pretty back and forth match, luckily the Pioneers got on a good serving run early and jumped out to an early lead. They would ride that lead straight to the end of the match and a five-set victory.

Top performers for IRSC included Greta Klotz (16 Kills, 9 Digs), Izabella Rae (38 Assists, 15 Digs), and Doris de Prato (11 Kills, 21 Digs)

With this win the Pioneers move to 6-7 overall with a 5-4 record in the Suncoast Conference. They will play their next match on Tuesday at home at 5:30 PM against State College of Florida.
