IRSC Volleyball Drops two at Home

The Indian River State College women's volleyball team hosted their first two home matches on Friday, September 20 and Saturday, September 21.

The Pioneers fell to the Titans of St. Petersburg College in four sets on Friday, before dropping the match against the Hillsborough Community College Hawks in five sets on Saturday afternoon.

Against St. Petersburg College the Pioneers defended well, with Gabriella Fiavola coming up with 17 digs and Mallory Roney and Jasmine Sayre contributing a combined 23 digs for the Pioneers. Kaitlyn Chavarria added an impressive 7 blocks. Tessa Radsheer led the Pioneers offensively with 11 kills and 4 aces and Chavarria and Roney contributed 8 kills each.  Erin Ergle recorded 32 assists.

In the second match the Cougars quickly found themselves taking the first set 25-12 before dropping the second and third set 21-25 and 16-25. However, the Pioneers stormed back with a 25-21 fourth set win but were ultimately outlasted by the Hawks in the fifth set losing 11-15.

Radsheer, Roney and Ergle led the Pioneers with 19 kills, 17 kills and 48 assists, respectively, while Sayre recorded an impressive 36 digs joining the 25 dig club for the second time this season.

The Indian River State College women's volleyball team returns to action Tuesday, September 24, when they take on and host Miami Dade Conference in their second conference match of the season.
