Indian River Volleyball goes 3 - 1 in Daytona Tournament

The IRSC Volleyball team participated in their second tournament of the season this weekend held at the DME Sports Comples in Daytona, Florida. In less than 24 hours the Pioneers finished with three match wins and one loss bringing their overall record to 6-2.  The Pioneers came out strong in their first match on Friday afternoon and won a hard fought battle against Santa Fe College (21-25, 25-16, 21-25, 25-21, 15-9). Immediately following their five set win, IRSC was matched up against the highest-ranked team in the state, Polk State College, ending with a 3-0 loss (19-25, 12, 25, 16-25).  Saturday morning the Pioneers again played back to back matches and emerged victorious over State College of Florida (28-26, 23-25, 25-19, 25-15) and Palm Beach State College (17-25, 26-24, 25-20, 26-24).

 Over the course of the tournament, Freshmen Tessa Raadsheer and Mallory Roney led the Pioneers offensively, finishing with 32 and 31 kills respectively. Freshman Gabriela Fialova amassed another 25 kills, followed by 22 for Sophomore Jada Bivins and 21 for Sophomore Ayannah Henry

 Freshman Jasmine Sayre led the Pioneers defensively accumulating 58 digs over the four matches, including 18 in the exciting win over conference rival Palm Beach State College.  Matching their solid production on offense, Bivens chipped in 44 digs while Fiavola added 33.  Sophomore  Caitlyn Leadabrand came up strong for the Pioneers with a total of 8 blocks for the weekend.

The Pioneers return to action on Wednesday, September 11 with an away match against Eastern Florida State College in Melbourne.
