FLAVIA RUSTERHOLZ NAMED 2019 FCSAA FEMALE STUDENT ATHLETE OF THE YEAR

Flavia Rusterholz, Indian River State College volleyball player, continues her stronghold of academic honors for the 2018 / 2019 academic year. Rusterholz was named the Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) Female Student-Athlete of the Year. The annual award is given to the top female student-athlete in the state of Florida amongst all women's athletes at the twenty-four member colleges. This honor, follows her recent naming as the 2019 Roberta Stokes Award, an honor given to the top student-athlete participating in volleyball within Region VIII of the NJCAA.

Nominations for the honor come forward from individual Region VIII member colleges and sport committee chairs and are the nominees are then vetted by the CAA Executive Council to determine the individual honoree.

While enrolled at IRSC, Rusterholz maintained a 4.00 GPA leading to her being named to the 2019 All-Florida Academic Team. She is one of only ten from Indian River State College and one of only 127 in the entire state of Florida earning this honor. Along with that honor, she is a Superlative Distinguished Scholar in the IRSC College of Education, a 2-time 1st-Team NJCAA Academic All-American, a 2-time member of the FCSAA All-Academic team, 2-time Southern Conference All-Academic Team and a2-time Top 10% Student Athlete at IRSC.

From an extra-curricular standpoint, Rusterholz has been involved with more than 25 community service projects in her two years at Indian River. These projects include involvement with helping raise awareness of the need to feed the hungry in our community, clean-up on the Treasure Coast beaches and feeding the homeless at food kitchens in the Ft. Pierce area.

She will continue her athletic and academic career as a scholarship athlete at Ave Maria University.
