Women’s Volleyball Wins Fourth Straight Match

The Indian River State College Women's' Volleyball team defended their home court last night, prevailing 3-1 over South Florida State College.
 

Sophomore Outside Hitter Jenna Erwin set the pace for the Pioneers with 8 kills, while fellow Outside Hitter, Freshman Ayannah Henry produced 6 winners herself.

Sophomore middle blockers Jacki Schmitz and Brittany Beckelheimer each contributed 5 kills, with Beckelheimer doing so on only 7 attempts; attacking at a very efficient .571 hitting percentage.

The Pioneers put forth a solid effort defensively as well, accumulating 79 digs in the match, 25 of them coming from Sophomore libero Rebecca Sills. Freshman Setter Jada Bivins totaled 14 digs while delivering 25 assists, and McKenna Tyson defended 11 of SFSC's attempted attacks.

The pre-match energy for the Pioneer's home debut was palpable in the stands and on the court, and converted to a fast start in the first set as IRSC got off to a 4-0 lead before taking the opening game 25-11. The Pioneers looked to be operating smoothly after dropping SFSC 25-17 in the second set, but the Panthers rallied in game 3, defeating IRSC 25-18. Refocused, the Pioneers put forth their best effort of the match in game 4, prevailing 25-7.

The Pioneers look to keep their winning ways intact this weekend at the Polk State College Invitational Tournament, where they will face perhaps their toughest competition of this young season.
