Pioneer volleyball test out their skills in preseason scrimmage

The volleyball team competed in the preseason Jamboree at Palm Beach State College on Saturday. The squad was able to see some familiar competition they will continue see throughout the season. Indian River competed against Southern Conference foes, Palm Beach State and Miami Dade College. The other two matches were against Webber University and Eastern Florida State College. The Pioneers had a well-balanced attack lead by sophomores Jenna Erwin, Lindsay Glynn and Brittany Beckelheimer. Freshmen Ayannah Henry, Caitlyn Leadabrand and Jacki Schmitz held their own and had a solid performance showing promise early in the season. IRSC will be a very exciting team to watch this season as they have a lot of depth in many positions. The setters Essi Penttinen, Erin Ergle and Jada Bivins are doing a great job running the offense and the defense looks like a well-oiled machine.

The Pioneers will have their Blue-Gold match on Monday, August 20 starting at 5:30. This will be a great time to watch your Indian River volleyball team in action. Admission to the match is free and will have honorary coaches at the event. Come out and support the volleyball team as they start their season.
