Pioneers Battle for Conference Position

Pioneers Battle for Conference Position

The Pioneers competed against Palm Beach State in a match that determined 2nd place in the Southern Conference, but also a trip to the FCSAA State Tournament. Coming into the match, it was for certain that it wouldn't be an easy match for either team. The two teams met twice this season and split their matches. There was a lot more at stake this time around as the hosts prevailed in the intense match between the two clubs.

The match went 4 sets with Indian River taking the first. The Pioneers started off slow, down 1-7 in the first set, before picking it up on the offensive end and taking over the set to win 25-19. The second set was back-and-forth with IRSC having a small lead in the middle of the set. The Panthers never backed down and continued to challenge the blockers and defense of IRSC. The set extended past the 25 points as Palm Beach took the set 25-27.

The 3rd set was another exciting one as both teams had opportunities to take over the match. The two teams spent the end of the set swapping points, but it was the Panthers who took the set 26-24 in another nail-biter. Palm Beach seemed to have the match wrapped up in the 4th set, leading 19-9, but the Pioneers wouldn't leave without a fight. The late surge wasn't enough to overtake the strong Panther team as Palm Beach State won the 4th and final set of the night, 22-25.

Lindsay Glynn had a big night for the Pioneers leading all attackers with 19 kills. Also having a big night was Becca Sills who scooped up 25 digs and Jordan Shoemaker dished out 42 assists. The volleyball team will wrap up their season this Saturday as they head to Daytona State.
