Indian River Battles Against #1 Miami Dade

Indian River Battles Against #1 Miami Dade

The volleyball team fell short against the #1 ranked team in the nation, Miami Dade on their Sophomore Night. But, they wouldn't go out with a fight. The first time the two teams met this season, Dade won rather handily. However, the second meeting would be a little different story as the Pioneers stole a set off the Sharks in an exciting Southern Conference battle. The action-packed match was filled with some big swings and scrappy defense by both sides.

Midway through the first set, the Pioneers started to play tough against Miami Dade. After falling 14-25 in the first set, the team went back-and-forth through most of the second set. Dade went on a couple runs at the end to close out the set, 19-25.  The defensive efforts of Lindsay Glynn, Becca Sills, Taylor Leander, Jordan Shoemaker, and the rest of the team helped keep the Pioneers in the match. The defensive efforts were enough to help the Pioneers win the 3rd set, 25-20. Although they fought tooth and nail, Dade showed their dominance, winning the match. Indian River pushed them and although losing the match, they pressured the sharks and made them earn their victory.

Key contributors on the night: Glynn (18 digs, 12 kills, 1 block), Sills (17 digs, 2 assists), Flavia Rostetter (14kills, 2 digs), McKenna Tyson (12 kills, 4 digs, 1 block), Leander (15 digs, 2 kills), and Shoemaker (37 assists, 12 digs, 3 blocks).

The volleyball team will finish their last game of the Southern Conference Thursday at Palm Beach State.
