Volleyball Splits Matches with FL-Gateway and HCC

The Pioneers took a trip across the state to Plant City where they had a pair of matches against Florida Gateway College and Hillsborough Community College. They saw action first against FL Gateway. The volleyball team took early control and seemed to handle the match with ease as they won the match: 25-9, 25-10, 25-16. McKenna Tyson (12 kills,  4 digs, 2 blocks) and Kaira Smith (10 kills, 7 digs, 1 ace) were the main offensive contributors. Jordan Shoemaker contributed 29 assists, 3 digs, and 3 aces.

In the second match on the day, Hillsborough CC forced many errors from Indian River as the Pioneers lost the match in 4 sets: 17-25, 20-25, 25-18, 8-25. Lindsay Glynn (9 kills, 4 digs, 2 aces) and Flavia Rostetter (7 kills, 4 blocks) provided much of the offense while Becca Sills chipped in 18 digs, 2 assist and an ace. Shoemaker tossed up 31 assists while scooping up 10 digs.

The volleyball team is now 8-11, and 3-1 in the Southern Conference. They are looking to finish strong in conference play this week. Sophomore Night will be Tuesday against Miami Dade at 6:00, so come out and support the River on their last regular-season home match! Thursday, they will wrap up the second round of Southern Conference play at Palm Beach State College.
