Pioneers Take Down Seahawks in 5-Set Thriller

In the second round of Southern Conference play, the volleyball team traveled down to Broward College and in dramatic fashion, won the match in five sets. In the first set, the Pioneers started off a little slow, while Broward controlled most of the first set. Towards the end of the game, the team started to gain some confidence as they battled and made some great defensive plays. Although they dropped the first set, 22-25, they had enough momentum to take over the second set. With an impressive .429 hitting percentage and 21 digs as a team, Indian River was able to win 25-10.

IRSC stayed in control of the third set, winning 25-21, but then ended up dropping the 4th, 22-25. Both teams fought hard, but in the end, the Pioneers were relentless in the 5th set, winning the match 15-3. They never let off the gas in the fifth set.

This was the best defensive match they have played all season racking up 99 team digs. Leading the way with an impressive 37 digs, was libero, Becca Sills. McKenna Tyson (17 kills, 6 blocks, 2 digs), Flavia Rostetter (15 kills, 7 digs), and Lindsay Glynn (12 kills, 18 digs, 2 blocks, 2 aces) lead the offensive threat for IRSC. Dishing out the assists was Jordan Shoemaker (50 assists, 5 kills, 3 blocks, 2 aces).

The win against Broward puts Indian River at 3-1 in the Southern Conference, and 7-10 overall. They will travel to Tampa this weekend to take on Hillsborough and Florida Gateway.
