Volleyball Splits a Pair at Home on Saturday

Indian River hosted a pair of matches on Saturday against EFSC and SCF-Manatee. The Pioneers came up with a strong performance in their first match, taking down the Titans in three sets. Flavia Rostetter led the offense with 7 kills while also adding two blocks, and a dig. Behind her, Sarah Egbers provided 6 kills and 2 digs. The defensive end was controlled by Becca Sills (13 digs, 2 assists), with other contributors: Taylor Leander (8 digs, 2 aces) and Lindsay Glynn (8 digs, 5 kills, 2 aces, 1 block). Freshman setter, Jordan Shoemaker ran a great offense dishing out 27 assists, and added 5 digs and 2 kills.

In the last match of the weekend for the Pioneers, they came up against a tough squad from the State College of Florida – Manatee.  It was a back-and-forth battle as both squads were impressive on the defensive end. The match went 5 sets in favor of Manatee. Lindsay Glynn capped off the offensive efforts with 14 kills, 8 digs and an ace, while Flavia Rostetter (12 kills), Brittany Beckelheimer (10 kills, 2 blocks), and McKenna Tyson (9 kills, 4 blocks, 5 digs) rounded out the production on the offensive end. Becca Sills chipped in 25 digs and Jordan Shoemaker added 49 assists, 14 digs and a block.

The win and the loss bring IRSC to 6-10 on the season as they prepare to start round two of conference play. The Pioneers will travel to Broward College on Thursday and are looking for another conference win. The volleyball team is currently 2-1 in Southern Conference play.
