The Pioneers opened up their regular season on Friday with wins against Lake Sumter and St. John's River. The young squad started off the afternoon with a great win against Lake Sumter. Indian River was in control of most of the match winning four sets, 25-16, 25-12, 18-25, 25-13. They were led by Jenna Erwin, who had 12 kills, 18 digs, and an ace. McKenna Tyson tallied 11 kills with a .471 hitting percentage. Kaira Smith added 10 kills, and 10 digs and Becca Sills contributed 18 digs as the libero. Jordan Shoemaker ran the offense dishes out 43 assists.

In the second match of the day, the Pioneers stayed hot defeating St. John's River in straight sets, 25-16, 25-14, 25-19. Flavia Rostetter was a key factor in the win with 17 kills and only 1 error hitting an impressive .696 for the match. She also had 3 aces and 6 digs. Smith added 11 kills, 13 digs, and an ace. Freshman libero, Sills had a great defensive effort giving Indian River 14 digs while Shoemaker had another great performance with 40 assists and 7 digs.

THe wins put the Pioneers at 2-0 on the season as they prepare for a tough lineup Saturday. They will be hosting State College of Florida Manatee and Polk and 12:00 and 2:30 respectively.
