Bio

Manabu `Manny' Noguchi is in his first season at Indian River State College as assistant swimming coach and aquatics coordinator. Noguchi is responsible for not only recruiting and coaching IRSC swimmers but also leading Indian River Aquatic swim team as a head club coach. Noguchi remains in the state of Florida with his new position. He previously coached swimmers at FAU since August of 2014. For last 2 seasons, he coached a majority of FAU swimmers and helped the program earning many academic honors as well as some conference athletic honors. He also taught senior-level “stress management” class for his last semester at FAU.

Before joining at the FAU, Noguchi coached at University of Wyoming focusing on recruiting and coaching a distance group. He helped coaching and mentoring many athletes both to All-MW honors and to All-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation honors/Western Athletic Conference. In 2014, Noguchi helped Adam Kalms, Ryan Nelson and George Eglesfield winning individual events at WAC championships. Nelson and Kalms also competed at 2014 NCAA Championships while Eglesfield won 100 butterfly and earned his first national title in New Zealand. While being at UW for 4 years, Noguchi helped all varsity records being broken and guided swimmers competing not only at every NCAA championships but also at 2012 Olympic Trials with 6 athletes. While being with Wyoming, he also taught every level of college Japanese classes.

Noguchi has been a part of international support staff for several occasions. In both 2011 and 2012, Noguchi was named as a staff member of the US Junior National Team for an international dual against the Itoman Junior National Team. He was a support staff member for the junior national team which consists of the best American swimmers under the age of 18. In July 2001, Noguchi was a member of the U.S. Swimming National Team Staff as an interpreter and media coordinator between U.S. National Team Director Dennis Pursley and various Japanese organizations.

Noguchi came to UW from Michigan State University where he was an assistant swimming coach and recruiting coordinator since 2004. While at MSU he also taught kinesiology courses including, weight training and general conditioning. Before joining the MSU staff Noguchi was a graduate assistant for the University of Georgia, from 2002-04, where he earned a master's degree in education with an emphasis in exercise science. While at the UGA, he served as the Athens Bulldog Swim Club (ABSC) senior assistant swim coach. Noguchi's vast coaching experience also includes serving as the head swim coach for Kyushu University, in Fukuoka, Japan from 2001 to 2002. Also adding to Noguchi's excellent coaching experience he was the pre-senior head coach for Nitro Swimming Club in Austin, Texas leading them to their first ever Texas state title. Noguchi swam at Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo, Calif., where he was a member of the California Junior College Championship swim team from 1994 to 1996. He is a native of Fukuoka, Japan, where he graduated from high school in 1992.
