Indian River Women’s Basketball Defeat Miami Dade

Wednesday evening in Fort Pierce Indian River State College hosted Miami Dade College. In what seem to be a blowout game, Pioneers fought hard to win in regulation 90-87. In the beginning of the game Miami Dade jumped out to a 20-point lead, going into halftime scoring 46 points to the River 35.

"Tonight's game was big for us, we are fighting to keep our playoff hopes alive while proving to ourselves we can compete at a high level. I am proud of my girls for staying in the fight, we was down big but continue to get defensive stops, Coach Robinson noted."

For the first time in six years, the River beat Miami Dade after being down 20 points. In the scoring column, the Pioneers had five players in double digits. Freshmen Breanna Campbell led the River with 18 points and six rebounds. Akiyonna Joiner contributed 15 points and seven rebounds, sophomore guard Loni Sales added 15 points, and Leah Dunn added 14 points and eight rebounds. Je'Nya Wilder contributed 11 points and seven rebounds.

With this win the River currently stand second in the southern conference with a record of 5-3, overall record of 15 – 11. The Pioneers are back in action Wednesday February 12 at home against Palm Beach State College at 5:30pm.
