The River Women's Basketball Making strides in the right direction

Coach Robinson mentioned "we started the game off on with an 8 point lead in the first quarter and only down by seven at halftime. Going into the third we failed to execute in key position which costed us to go down by 15."

Overall the women's basketball program is seeing improvement scoring wise by having four players score in double digits. Sophomore guard Kiandra Hooks lead the way with 16 points and 5 steals. Angelica Flores and Jocelynn Small added 15 points apiece. In addition, freshman point guard Kayla Bell added 14 points. Coach Robinson noted that "all season our problem has been scoring and to see four players score in double digits is a testament to the work the girls are putting in daily. We hope to continue to improve to make a run in southern conference starting mid-January."

In the second matchup the River faced top ranked Pensacola State College. The River loses a hard fought battle 74-66. During this matchup the River competed at an extremely high level, going back and forth with Pensacola throughout the entire contest. Within the final 5 minutes Pensacola took a ten point lead that the River could not recover from with key starters fouling out. "Even though we lost I couldn't be more proud of the girls, they competed for forty minutes consistently. Things are starting to come together for us on both ends of the floor which preparing for us to compete during conference play" noted Coach Robinson.

The River witness scoring consistencies with Freshmen Jocelynn Small contributing a career high 21 points and 6 rebounds. Sophomore guards Angelica Flores added 19 points and Kiandra Hooks added 16 points. "Even though we lost I couldn't be more proud of the girls, they competed for forty minutes consistently. Things are starting to come together for us on both ends of the floor which preparing for us to compete during conference play" noted Coach Robinson. 

IRSC women's Basketball program is back in action January 3rd as they travel to College of Central Florida for a 5:30pm tip.
