On Saturday afternoon IRSC matched up against state ranked Eastern Florida State College. The River outscored the Titans 20 to 14 in the first quarter by offensively executing and defending. Going into half time the river was up 29 to 23, as they were making strides to knock off the top ranked titans.
In the second half foul trouble, lack of defensive intensity and turnovers doomed the pioneers causing them to get outscored 27 to 6. In the fourth quarter the women's basketball program fought hard to stay in the game but suffered a tough defeat to the Titans, 84 to 53. This lose has caused the pioneer to start the season off 0-2.
Sophomore Kiandra Hooks lead the river with 14 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assist and 2 steals.
The road for the pioneers does not get easy as they host state ranked Daytona State on Tuesday at 5:30pm.
