Pioneer women move to 6-2 in the Southern Conference as they picked up a solid win versus ASA-Miami

First quarter was in ASA – Miami's favor as the Silver Streaks opened up the game with a deep three point shot. Unfortunately it would not be the last that quarter as another two made its way to the rim, before the Pioneer woke up defensively. Freshman Reniaya Burr answered back by firing up a three point shots back, but it was the scoring of Cyann Fox that kept the Pioneers in the lead to end the first, 18-12.

ASA – Miami's deep game was still in affected as they dropped two more from behind the arc keeping the Pioneers chasing in the second quarter. However, Burr once again stepped up and matched the Silver Streaks three ball and pulled away on a couple breakaways buckets to keep the Pioneers ahead in the count 14-10. The Pioneers led 32-22 at the half.

Second half found the Pioneers with a new starting line-up with fresh energy taking the floor. Cali Gumpel found herself heading to the free throw line in the opening minutes and then contributing the next four points to the teams cause. But the Silver Streaks continued their shooting and hit yet again another two three point shots to challenge the Pioneers. Burr did what she had done each quarter and fired back contributing another three point and four from the floor. The offensive scoring power of the River was took much for ASA-Miami as the gap widened even more from the 22-8 run.

In the final quarter ASA-Miami would not back down as they reminded the River of their long ball one final time. The River would head to the free throw line ten times this quarter but could only convert 5 of them into points, this gave ASA-Miami an opportunity to win the quarter the River hung on 15-12. The final score when the buzzer sounded was 69-42 in favor of the River.

Freshman Reniaya Burr led all Pioneers in scoring with 18 points and freshman Joseline Ramos contributed 14 to the victory.

The Pioneers now 10-12 are 6-2 in conference play and will face the Broward Seahawks on the road Tuesday at 5:00 in Davie, FL.
