Indian River Clinches Berth in State Tournament

IRSC Softball once again will compete for supremacy in the state of Florida, at the upcoming 2023 FCSAA State Tournament.

This past Saturday at The River, The Pioneers punched their ticket to the post-season with a double header (and season) sweep over conference foe Miami Dade. The stands were packed prior to the games, to celebrate the Dale Atkinson Field Dedication, named in honor of our legendary coach (1082 wins). The two weekend wins improved the team's conference record to 8-3 and secured another impressive 40 win season. Indian River also qualifies for the NJCAA Region 8 Championship, with two berths on the line to the National Tournament In Alabama.

Game One saw Alina Varga, a top five national leader in both strikeouts and wins, notch her twenty first victory in the circle.

The sophomore pitched a seven inning complete game, allowing just one hit and striking out four. Adrianna Portanova was two for three at the plate with an RBI, Bridget Dunham scored twice, and Madison Knight added two RBI's and two stolen bases to help lead the offense and seal the (4-0) win.

Game Two (8-3) featured more offense from the Pioneers with a team total of ten hits. Daija Torchia was four for four with three stolen bases, and Kyla Knier drove in two RBIs. Dominique Prevette (#3 National ERA leader) pitched six complete innings to earn her 17th win of the season, and giving way to Freshman Emma Solis to close the game in the seventh. Up Next: Monday April 17 at Eastern Florida (3:00pm and 5:00pm).
