Indian River Wins Two at Polk State

IRSC Softball defeated Polk State 12-3 and 12-9 on Wednesday in Winter Haven

After taking the lead on a run scoring single by Kirsty Granville in the 5th inning, IRSC put the game away scoring eight runs in the sixth inning. Tayler Owen, Shayne Hewitt, Taylor Wroten, Maeghan Branche, and Morgan Roberts each drove in runs during the inning.

Freshman pitcher Taylor Wroten (7-0) got the win for the Pioneers. She went five innings, allowing three runs on five hits and striking out four.

Wroten, Owen, Jaden Williamson and Macie Stanfield each racked up multiple hits. Wroten led the way with three hits in four at bats. 

In the game two 12-9 win IRSC had to come from behind twice to secure their eighteenth straight win on the season.  Training 7-5 in the 6th IRSC scored six runs to take an 11-7 lead. With the game tied at seven Morgan Roberts blasted a bases clearing double on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring three runs.

Freshman pitcher Jaden Williamson (8-0) got the win in relief of starting pitcher Hailey Astill.

IRSC launched two home runs on the day. Tayler Owen had a homer in the second inning. Ramsy Phillips had a four bagger in the fourth inning.

The Pioneers collected 13 hits on the day. Owen, Maeghan Branche, Phillips, Roberts, and Jaden Williamson racked up multiple hits. Owen led the team with three hits in four at bats. 

The 18-0 Pioneers travel to Soldiers Creek in Orlando on Saturday to take on Santa Fe State College at 11:30 and St. Johns River State College at 4:00.
