Atkinson Inducted Into Pioneer Sports Hall of Fame

April 18 marked a day that will forever etch a mark in the history books of Indian River State College's Athletic Department. Dale Atkinson was inducted into the Pioneer Sports Hall of Fame. Atkinson currently serves as an Assistant Athletic Director, Head Softball Coach and instructor in the Sports Management program at the college.

Over the years, the softball program has thrived under his leadership. He has seen 208 players named All-Southern Conference, 79 players named FCSAA All-State and 27 have been named NJCAA All-Americans. The 2002 team won the NJCAA National Championship, teams from 2002, 2004 and 2005 won FCSAA State Championship and 17 teams have been crowned Southern Conference Champions, to include the 2019 team currently qualified for the FCSAA State Softball Tournament being played May 2-5 in Sanford, Florida. As of this printed release, Atkinson has more than 950 career wins as a Head Coach.

Atkinson's induction ceremony took place at Indian River State College's annual Athletic Banquet. He was joined by his mother, Ruby, his wife, Denise, his son, Richard and daughter, Kristen. Among others on hand to celebrate this honor were numerous family members to include in-laws and grandchildren.
