Indian River Defeats Broward

Indian River State College traveled to Broward on Wednesday to take on Broward College. IRSC took the first game of the double header 12-2 and hung on for a 7-6 win in game two.

In game one freshman shortstop Taylor Dyal had a busy day at the plate smacking four hits in the Pioneers13-2 victory. Dyal singled in the second, singled in the third, doubled in the fifth, and doubled in the sixth.

"The River" secured the victory thanks to seven runs in the sixth inning. The Pioneer offense in the inning was led by Brooke Mathews, Juhle Prange, Dyal, Cailegh Croft, Mya Maddox, and Michalla Reddick, who each had RBI hits in the inning.

Sophomore pitcher Dawn Bodrug was credited with the victory. She lasted five innings, allowing one hit and zero runs while striking out nine and walking one. Hailey Astill threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.
IRSC collected 16 hits in the game. Dyal, Brittini Norwood, Maddox, Croft, and Prange all managed multiple hits. . Dyal led the team with four hits in four at bats. Dyal also swiped three bases, as the team ran wild on the base paths with eight stolen bases.

In game two IRSC built a five-run lead in the fifth inning and then held off Broward College's charge for a 7-6 victory.

There was plenty of action on the base paths as Indian River collected 11 hits.

After Broward took the lead scoring two runs in the bottom of the first. IRSC responded, scoring four runs in the third inning. In the third Madison Headley doubled on a 2-0 count, scoring one run, Brooke Mathews doubled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run, and Brittini Norwood singled on a 1-2 count, scoring two runs.

Once again pitcher Dawn Bodrug earned the victory. She went seven innings, allowing six runs on ten hits and striking out seven.

Headley, Mathews, and Taylor Dyal each racked up multiple hits for IRSC. Headley went 3-for-5 at the plate to lead the team in hits.

IRSC raises its season record to 26-13 and sits atop the conference at 10-2. The Pioneers return to action on April 10th taking on conference rival Eastern Florida. Game times in Ft. Pierce are 2:00 & 4:00.
