Indian River Wins at Eastern Florida

Indian River won both games of a double header in softball against Eastern Florida Monday night in Melbourne. IRSC won game one 9-6, then took game two 8-7 in extra innings.

In the game one victory both teams' offenses were strong in the 9-6 Pioneer win. IRSC opened up scoring in the second inning, when Rachael Samaniego drew a bases loaded walk, scoring the game's first run.

The Pioneers tallied five runs in the fourth inning. Mya Maddox, Juliana Speranza, Taylor Dyal, and Brittini Norwood all moved runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning. Sophomore pitcher Dawn Bodrug (14-6) took the win for IRSC. Bodrug lasted seven innings, allowing eight hits and six runs while striking out seven. The offense racked up 12 hits in the game. Dyal, Maddox, Juhle Prange, and Speranza all had multiple hits.. Dyal led the way with three hits in four at bats.

Game two once again was a fiercely contested game between the top two teams in the conference. The game was tied at seven with IRSC batting in the top of the eighth when Juliana Speranza's sac fly scored the game winning run. Indian River scored six runs in the third inning. The rally was led by a walk by Brooke Mathews, a home run by Juhle Prange, and a double by Speranza.

Dawn Bodrug (15-6) was credited with the victory for IRSC. She allowed one hit and two runs over three innings, striking out four. Starting pitcher Hailey Astill reentered the game in the eighth to record her second save on the season.Freshman outfielder Madison Headley led Indian River with three hits in five at bats.

With the two wins IRSC (24-13) sits atop the Southern Conference standings (8-2). The team travels to play at Broward College on Wednesday. Game times are 4:00 & 6:00.
