Indian River Sweeps North Iowa Area Community College

In the first matchup Indian River State College defeated North Iowa Area Community College on Wednesday thanks to a walk-off run scoring fielder's choice by sophomore outfielder Brittini Norwood. The game was tied at three with IRSC batting in the bottom of the eighth when Norwood drove in the game winning run. NIACC took an early lead in the second inning on a bases loaded walk, scoring one run. In the bottom of the fifth inning the Pioneers tied things up at three, scoring the tying run on a wild pitch.
Sophomore pitcher Dawn Bodrug led IRSC to victory. She allowed three hits and three runs over eight innings, striking out 15. Mya Maddox led the Pioneer offense with two hits in two at bats.

In Game Two of the doubleheader was another hard fought win for the Pioneers. The game was tied at five with IRSC batting in the bottom of the sixth when Juhle Prange homered on a 2-1 count, scoring three runs. Freshman pitcher Hailey Astill led the Pioneers to victory on the rubber. She surrendered five runs on ten hits over seven innings, striking out one. IRSC totaled nine hits in the game. Brooke Mathews and Mikayla Hart collected two hits each for IRSC. The Lady Pioneers open conference play this weekend at Palm Beach State College taking on Palm Beach and Eastern Florida on Saturday. On Sunday the Pioneers will square off against Broward and Miami Dade.
