Indian River Softball Sweeps HCC

Indian River won both games of a double-header against Hillsborough Community College on Friday afternoon in Ft. Pierce.


In the opening game sophomore pitcher Elizabeth Gollin shut down the Hawks, throwing a complete game shutout leading IRSC to a 3-0 victory. Gollin (1-0) struck out four in her complete game shutout of HCC.


Rachael Samaniego led the Pioneers offense with two hits in two at bats. Defensively IRSC didn't commit an error in the field.


In the second game, Indian River held off HCC 5-3 to secure the teams second win of the day.


Sophomore Dawn Bodrug (2-1) was credited with the victory. She surrendered three runs on five hits over five innings, striking out six. Hailey Astill and Liz Gollin entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief. Gollin recorded the last three outs to earn the save.


IRSC tallied eight hits in the game. Rachael Samaniego and Madison Headley each had two hits to lead the offense. Once again IRSC was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error.

IRSC (4-2) will take on Daytona State on Thursday (2-14-19) in Ft. Pierce. Game times for the double-header are 2:00pm & 4:00pm.
