Indian River State Captures Southern Conference Title with Sweep of Eastern Florida

 Indian River captured the 2018 Southern Conference Championship with a double header sweep of the Eastern Florida State Titans on Wednesday night. IRSC won the opening game behind the strong pitching of freshman Elizabeth Gollin. She surrendered two runs on four hits over seven innings, striking out six. The Pioneers fired up the offense in the first inning, when Jaden Kline singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs. IRSC collected scattered 11 hits in the game. Juliana Speranza, Crystal Grimaldo, and Kline each collected multiple hits.  Speranza led the team with three hits in four at bats

Game 2       IRSC 7 EFSC 2

The Pioneers defeated Eastern Florida State 7-2 in game two.  The game was tied at one with "The River" batting in the top of the seventh when Savannah Julylia singled on a 2-1 to put IRSC back on top for good. Freshman pitcher Dawn Bodrug (11-6) went the distance surrendering two runs on four hits over seven innings, striking out eight. The Pioneer hitters saw the ball well today, racking up 12 hits in the game. Julylia, Brittini Norwood, Crystal Grimaldo, and Jaden Kline each had multiple hits. Kline, Grimaldo, Norwood, and Julylia all had two hits to lead the offense.   

The 39-11 & #7 nationally ranked Pioneers next game is Saturday in Ft. Pierce versus the Sharks of Miami Dade College.  The final home game of the season is also "Sophomore Day" in which the team will honor the 2018 graduating class.  Ceremonies begin at 12:30pm.  Game one is scheduled to start at 1:00, game 2 at 3:00pm.
