Indian River Splits with St. Johns River

 

Despite outhitting St Johns River nine to four, it wasn't enough in a 4-2 opening game loss on Thursday in Palatka. IRSC opened up scoring in the first inning scoring on a wild pitch. 

 

Trailing 2-0 St Johns River scored four unearned runs in the fourth inning to secure the win.  Dawn Bodrug took a tough loss despite no allowing an earned run in her six innings of work. Bodrug only allowed four hits and struck out ten Viking batters.  IRSC racked up nine hits. Adriana Otero, Korie Corral, and Dream Aaron all had multiple hits for the Pioneers. Otero led the offense with four hits in four at bats.

 

In the game two win IRSC used a seven-run fourth inning propelling the team to a 11-2 five inning win. In the big inning IRSC got big hits from Brittini Norwood and Korie Corral, home runs by Jaden Kline and Taylor Strickland, and a double by Crystal Grimaldo The Pioneers also added three runs in the third inning. In the third Dream Aaronsingled on a 2-1 count, scoring two runs and Strickland singled on a 2-0 count, scoring one run. Freshman pitcher Liz Gollin toed the rubber for five innings, allowing three hits and two runs while striking out six and walking zero. The River socked three home runs on the day. Strickland went deep in the fourth inning. Kline put one out in the fourth inning. Juliana Speranza went yard in the fifth inning.

 IRSC collected 14 hits on the day. Norwood, Strickland, and Speranzaall managed multiple hits.  Stricklandand Norwood each collected three hits to pace the offense.
