Indian River Wins At Polk State

Indian River State College Softball won both games of a double-header against Polk State on Tuesday 12-0 and 9-1.

In the opening game freshman pitcher Elizabeth Gollin tossed a complete game, three hit shutout.  In her five innings in the circle Gollin walked one and struck out four Polk State hitters. Dream Aaron powered the Pioneer offense, driving in four runs. She went 3-for-3 at the plate. Aaron drove in runs on a double in the third and a home run in the fourth. IRSC scored five runs in the fourth inning. The rally was led by homeruns from Aaron and Jaden Kline, and a single by Michalyn BinghamThe Pioneers combined for 13 hits in the game. Aaron, Savannah Julylia, Bingham, Crystal Grimaldo, Danielle Bieberle, and Kline each had multiple hits for "The River." IRSC was also sure-handed on defense, not committing a single error.

In game two win sophomore pitcher Valerie Alvarado was strong in the circle for the Pioneers. Alvarado went the distance allowing two hits, one run while walking only one Polk State batter. IRSC opened up scoring in the first inning, when freshman third baseman Crystal Grimaldo homered on a 1-2 count, scoring three runs. IRSC scored five more runs in the fifth to seal the victory. Savannah Julylia, Dream Aaron, Jaden Kline, and Korie Corral powered the big inning with RBIs. The five run fourth inning was powered from doubles by Julylia, Kline, and Corral and Dream aaron's second homerun of the day. The Pioneers racked up 11 hits. Julylia, Michalyn Bingham, and Danielle Bieberle each had multiple hits for "The River."  Bieberle, Bingham, and Julylia all had two hits to lead the offense.  The Pioneers were also sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error.

The 20-6 Pioneers take on #2 state ranked Florida Southwestern in Ft. Myers on Thursday night.  Game one is scheduled to begin at 5:00pm, game two at 7:00pm.
