Indian River Defeats Central Florida

Indian River State College won both games of a double-header from Central Florida on Saturday in Ft. Pierce 9-0 and 7-2.

In the game one win freshman pitcher Elizabeth Gollin (9-1) tossed a complete game two hit shutout.  In the five inning win Gollin walked two and struck out 11 Patriot batters. IRSC secured the victory thanks to six runs in the third inning. Korie Corral, Savannah Julylia, Dream Aaron, and Crystal Grimaldo each drove in runs during the inning. Jaden Kline, Morgan Greco, Grimaldo, Aaron, and Julylia each managed one hit to lead the Pioneer offense.  IRSC was perfect on defense not committing a single error in the field. Kline had eight chances in the field, the most on the team.

In the game two victory once again the Pioneers struck quickly on Offence.  The Patriots opened the game scoring the game's first two runs but the Pioneers responded in the bottom of the inning with four runs taking a 4-2 lead. Indian River scored on a RBI single by Crystal Grimaldo, a sacrifice fly by Jaden Kline, and a walk by Korie Corral in the first inning. Three Pioneer pitchers combined for the win.  Freshman Dawn Bodrug (4-4) took the win.  Gollin relieved starter Valerie Alvarado, entering the game with two runners in scoring position with no outs. Bodrug struck the first batter she faced, induced an infield fly for the second out, and struck out her second batter in the inning to end the Patriot threat. Elizabeth Gollin threw two and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen. Gollin recorded the last eight outs to earn her third save on the season. The Pioneers racked up seven hits in the game. Danielle Bieberle and Savannah Julylia collected two hits each to lead Pioneer offense.

The 18-6 Pioneers return to diamond on Tuesday in Winter Haven taking bon the Polk State Eagles.  Game times at the Diamond Plex are 4:00 & 6:00.
