Indian River Softball Defeats Polk State

After a disappointing weekend in the Visit Dothan Tournament where IRSC dropped 4 of 5 games the Pioneers rebounded with a double header sweep of Polk State on Tuesday in Ft. Pierce.

In the visit Dothan Tournament the Pioneers dropped three games on Friday losing to #2 nationally ranked Salt Lake 4-3, #5 ranked Chipola 10-2, and #19 Georgia Military 2-1.  On Saturday in Dothan the Pioneers opened the day with a 3-2 loss to Northwest Florida and finished the weekend with a decisive 10-3 win over Coastal Alabama.

In the first game against Polk State on Tuesday IRSC pitchers Valerie Alvarado (4-1) and Dawn Bodrug combined on a one hit shutout in the 10-0 win. Freshman Crystal Grimaldo hit her team leading fifth homerun on the season and catcher Jaden Kline contributed two hits, driving in three runs to pace the offense.

In the second game against Polk State Elizabeth Gollin (7-1) and Dawn Bodrug tossed a complete game, one hit shutout of the Polk State Eagles. Sophomore outfielder Michalyn Bingham paced the Pioneer offense with two hits, scored two runs, stole two bases and drove in two runs.

The 14-7 Pioneers return to the diamond on Thursday against State College of Florida in Ft. Pierce.  First pitch of game one begins at 2:00 PM, game two is scheduled to begin at 4:00 PM.
