Indian River Swimming Competes at Florida Southern College

Indian River Men's and Women's Swimming teams continued their season this past weekend at Florida Southern College with the women winning, and the men coming up short in the last relay to lose their meet.

The women's side of the competition saw the River win 11 of the 14 events contested with Savanna Best leading the way by taking 3 individual victories in the 100 and 200 breaststroke, and the 400 IM. She was also part of the winning 200 medley relay with teammates Sophia Diagne, Emma Colvin, and Elianna Kennon.

Elianna Kennon won her 2 individual events (50 and 100 free) and teamed up with Diagne, Camryn Wheals and Liz Watts to take the 400 free relay. Other event winners included Sule van der Merwe in the 100 and 200 back, and Camryn Hudson in the 100 and 200 butterfly. For the men, the River won 7 of the 14 events with individual event wins coming from Ruben van Leeuwen (100 and 200 fly), Jarryd Baxter (200 back and 400 IM), Josh Stegen (200 free), and Christian Nishimura in the 200 breast. The team of Baxter, Eric Veit, van Leeuwen, and Ryen van Wyk also took the victory in the 200 medley relay.

This meet was the final college dual meet of the season, but IRSC will next compete in the Craigie Invitational at home on February 8-10 before travelling to Buffalo, NY for the NJCAA Championship in March.
