Jayshayne Woodard Named Region VIII Player of the Week for Second Time

TALLAHASSEE, FL – Indian River State College Sophomore Jayshayne Woodard was named last week's NJCAA Region VIII Player of the Week. It was the second time he received this honor this year and fourth overall as he received two Player of the Week honors during the 2022-23 season.

For the week, Woodard averaged 17.5 points per game, 11 rebounds per game, seven assists per game and two steals per game. On the road against Hillsborough Woodard posted 19 points, nine rebounds, seven assists and one steal in a 75-61 victory. Woodard followed that with another outstanding road performance with 16 points, 13 rebounds, seven assists and three steals in a 74-59 victory. 

"We're very happy for Jay. He played outstanding this week and really put the team on his shoulders as we were very shorthanded this week." Said Coach Bill Morosco. "However, the most important thing he did this week won't show up in the box score. His leadership has been instrumental to our team's success," he continued.

Cheer on Woodrd and the Pioneers at home on Wednesday, February 28 against Polk State. Tip-off is 5:00 p.m.
