Miles Coleman Southern Conference Player of the Year, Charlie Wilson Coach of the Year, 8 Players Honored

Fort Pierce, Florida – The Indian River State College (IRSC) Men's Basketball Team was well represented on the all-conference selection list released for the Southern Conference.  A total of eight members were selected to the all-conference list from the Pioneers' roster with the top honor going to sophomore Miles Coleman who was selected Conference Player of the Year.  Miles was also named to the All-Region team.  The 6'5" Coleman, in his only season at The River, was third in the state in scoring with a 19.0 points per game, he averaged 6.5 rebounds per game and dished out 3.9 assists.  He scored a season high 32 points against ASA (Miami) and scored 20 or more points in 14 games and currently has 533 points.   

Joining Coleman on the 1st Team were Drew LaMont, Jai Clark, Tanahj Pettway, and DeJuan Lockett. LaMont, a 6'8" sophomore forward, was the second leading scorer for IRSC with a 13.2 average.  He scored double figures in 21 of the 28 games he participated in this season.  Clark, who is known for his three-point shooting, is a repeat 1st team selection.  Last year the 6'3" guard led the nation in three-point baskets made (139) and currently has made 96 three-point baskets at 43.4%.  Pettway, a 6'1" freshman point guard, averaged 12.2 ppg and dished out 3.2 assists.  He scored a career high 26 points against State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota and scored in double digits 14 times this season.  Sophomore Forward DeJuan Lockett rounded out the IRSC's first team selctions.  He was a second team all-confernce seletion last season.  This year he averaged 10.2 ppg and pulled in 5.5 rebounds per game.  He has currently scored 576 points in his career and pulled in 311 rebounds.

Second team all-conference member for IRSC were Antrell Charlton, A.J. Cajuste, and Linton Brown.  Charlton, a do it all defensive specialist, averaged 5.5 ppg, 5.3 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 1.3 steals.  Cajuste, super quick point guard, led the Pioneers in assists with 4.2 per game and averaged 6.9 points per game.  Brown averaged 9.7 points per game and scored double figures 13 times this season with a career high 27 points against Game Changers Prep School. 

IRSC Head Coach Charlie Wilson was also recognized as the Southern Conference Coach of the Year for the second time in the last three years. Wilson's team finished the conference season with an impressive 11-1 mark and currently holds a 22-7 overall record and will be playing in the Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) Men's Basketball Championships on March 4th in Niceville, Florida at 8 p.m.  In only his fifth season at the helm, he has guided the Pioneers to a 99-51 overall record, three consecutive 20 win seasons and three consecutive appearances in the FCSAA Basketball Championship Tournament.  He has coached two Southern Conference Player of the Year award winners, 30 all-conference selections, and 4 all-state selections.
