IRSC Lose On The Road To Broward

Fort Lauderdale, Florida – The Indian River State College (IRSC) Men's winning streak came to an end on Saturday at the hands of Broward College, 96-88.  The Pioneers got off to a slow start and allowed Broward to go on an 11-0 run to start the game.  IRSC came storming back and took their first lead of the game on a Drew LaMont three-point basket 22-20.  The three-pointer just kept coming from LaMont, Jai Clark and Miles Coleman as the Pioneers pushed the advantage to 18 points, 51-33.  Broward continued to fight, cutting the score to 58-44 at the half.

IRSC had difficulty finding the basket in the second half and Broward went on a 12-2 run, 60-56.  The Pioneers held the lead until Broward went on another run and tied the score at 67.  A couple of turnovers allowed Broward to take their first lead of the second half with nine minutes remaining, 72-71.  IRSC could not convert two lay-up opportunities and turned the ball over on consecutive possessions allowing them to take a nine-point advantage, 89-80.  Broward held on to their lead and won the contest 96-88.  Leading scorers for the contest were A.J. Cajuste with 23, Clark 18, LaMont 15, and Coleman with 14 points.

The loss ended IRSC's 13 game winning streak and gave them their first defeat in the Southern Conference.  They will put their 17-7 over-all record and 6-1 Southern Conference record on the line when they take on Miami Dade College this Wednesday, February 5th.  It will be a home contest for the Pioneers on the Fort Pierce campus with a 7:30 p.m. start.
