IRSC Lose On The Road To Tough Polk State Team

Winter Haven, Florida – Polk State proved to be too much for the Indian River State College (IRSC) Men's Basketball Team on Saturday afternoon as they defeated IRSC 100-80.  The ball game was close in the early going with the score being tied 11-11 at the 13:30 mark when Antrell Charlton tipped in a missed IRSC shot.  The Pioneers committed a couple of costly turnovers and allowed Polk State to gain a 22-14 advantage with 11:23 to go.  IRSC's defense had difficulty containing Polk State's three-point shooters (14-31, 45.2% for the game) and were behind at the half, 40-34.

IRSC narrowed the margin to 47-43 on a Drew LaMont pull-up baseline jumper with 16:42 remaining in the game.  The defense was never able to put together a string of stops and never cut the lead in the second half closer than four points.

The Pioneers were led in scoring by Drew LaMont and Tanahj Pettway both with 14, Miles Coleman 12, and Linton Brown added 11 points.  Polk State improves their record to 5-0 and the loss drops the Pioneer record to 3-3.  IRSC will be in action on Wednesday, November 20th at 7 p.m. when they take on State College of Florida, Jacksonville.
