IRSC Men’s Basketball Score 120 Points In Season Opening Victory
The Indian River State College (IRSC) Men's Basketball Team won their season opening game over Ave Maria Junior Varsity 119-58. The Pioneers took a 16-6 lead on a nifty Miles Coleman lay-up and increased the margin to 16 points on a baseline drive by DeJuan Lockett, 46-30 with 4:42 to go in the half.
Ave Maria scored early in the second half and cut the lead to 13, 62-49, but after IRSC Head Coach Charlie Wilson called timeout and made a few adjustments, the team's intensity picked up. The Pioneers outscored Ave Maria 57-9 in the remaining minutes of the game and cruised on to a 61-point win.
IRSC had five players in double figures led by Drew LaMont's 24 points, Miles Coleman's 22 points. LaMont was 6-10 from behind the 3-point line, and Coleman was 10-14 from the field. DeJuan Lockett added 15, Mekhi Speller-Hale 13, and Tanahj Pettway tossed in 12 points for the Pioneers. IRSC shot 58% from the field and scored 41 points off of turnovers. They also out rebounded Ave Maria 47-30 with Speller-Hale and Lockett both pulling in 7 rebounds.
IRSC (1-0 on the season) will be in action on Monday November 4th for a home contest with Game Changer Prep Academy for a 5:30 p.m. tip in Fort Pierce, Florida.
