Broward Too Much For IRSC

Fort Pierce, Florida – The Indian River State College (IRSC) Men's Basketball Team got off to a slow start on Wednesday night against Southern Conference foe, Broward College. The Pioneers found themselves down 12 points at the 10-minute mark 27-15 and that lead swelled to 21 points, 46-25 with 4:46 seconds to go in the first half. IRSC continued to battle and cut the lead to 13 at the half, 53-40.

The Pioneers pushed the pace in the second half and the lead was down to 9 after two made free-throws by DeJuan Lockett, 60-51. A defensive stop and a made three-point shot pulled IRSC closer cutting the lead to 60-54. Broward converted two free-throws making the lead 62-54, but Lockett hit back to back lay-ups cutting Broward's advantage to 4 points with just under 13 minutes remaining in the game, 62-58.

Unfortunately, that was as close as Pioneers would get in the contest. Broward would increase the lead to 13 points with ten minutes to go and went on to win 95-86. IRSC shot 4-19 from three-point range for a dismal 21% and had 21 turnovers. Broward shot 39% from three-point range and only committed 15 turnovers.

The Pioneers were led in scoring by Kimani Binder with 18, Charlie Daniels 14, Tadre Morse 13, and Micah Johnson tossed in 10 points. Daniels also pulled in 10 rebounds. The loss dropped IRSC's record to 17-8 and 3-4 in the Southern Conference. They will be in action on Saturday, February 9 at 4 p.m. when they travel to Miami, Florida, to take on Miami Dade College.
