IRSC Loses First Conference Game To Broward College


Fort Lauderdale, Florida – The Indian River State College (IRSC) Men's Basketball Team lost its first conference game to Broward College in a rare Sunday afternoon match-up, 82-77. IRSC held a 14-13 lead on a DeJuan Lockett tip-in with 12:41 remaining in the first half, but Broward regained the lead with 9:48, 20-15. The Pioneers caught fire and took back the lead as they went into the half with a 13 point advantage, 45-32.


IRSC was able to hold that lead until the 6:53 left in the second half when Broward converted two free-throws making the score 62-61. The lead changed hands several times in the final minutes of the game before Broward took control and went on to win, 82-77. Too many unforced turnovers hurt IRSC, 17 for the game, with most of them coming in the second half. IRSC did a solid job rebounding, recording 43 total rebounds for the contest. Marc Syles led the Pioneers with 10 rebounds.


Scoring for the Pioneers were Kimani Binder with 28, Jai Clark 14, and DeJuan Lockett tossed in 10 points. The loss dropped IRSC's record to 17-5 and 3-1 in the conference. IRSC will next be in action at IRSC on Wednesday, January 30, when they take on Palm Beach College. The game with start at 7:30 p.m., after the conclusion of the women's contest.
