IRSC Men’s Basketball Move to 10-2

Indian River State College (IRSC) Men's Basketball Team started slow on Saturday, but got going in the second half to defeat State College of Florida-Manatee 84-69.

The win moved IRSC's record to 10-2, one of their best starts in recent years.  "I'm proud of the way our guys have played early in the season, there have been times when we have been a little careless with the ball, but overall I'm pleased with their effort," commented IRSC Head Coach Charlie Wilson.  The Pioneers couldn't get going offensively early in the game and found themselves down 33-32 with 1:33 left to go in the first half.  Several unforced turn-overs and bad shot selection led to Manatee getting some easy shots.  Deontae Weaver hit a 3 pointer at the end of the half to give IRSC a 35-33 lead at the half.

The second half saw a more focused and determined Pioneers' team.  The defense picked up in the second half and IRSC caused several turnovers, which led to some easy transition baskets.  They were able to build has much as a 19 point lead in the second half and continued the pace winning 84-69.  Leading scorers for Pioneers were Deontae Weaver with a career high 27 points, Anthony Brown 16 points, Cedric Jackson 12 points, and Kimani Binder rounded out the scoring with 10.  Anthony Brown dished out a game high 9 assists and also lead the team in rebounding with 8.

The next action for the Pioneers will be on Saturday December 9th at the Juco Shoot-Out in Ocala Florida when they will play Polk State College at noon and Northwest Florida on Sunday at 2 p.m.
