Anthony Brown Southern Conference Player of the Year, Charlie Wilson Coach of the Year, 7 Players Honored

The Southern Conference has submitted their all conference selections and the Indian River State College (IRSC) Men's Basketball Team was well represented.  There were seven total   IRSC team members selected to the Southern All Conference Team starting with sophomore Anthony Brown being selected Conference Player of the Year.  Brown in his only season at The River, lead the state in assists with 7.2 per game, was third on his team in scoring with 15.2 ppg, and second on his team in rebounding with 6.8 per game.  He handled the majority of the ball handling duties for the Pioneers and had an assist turnover ratio of 3.2. 

Joining Brown on the 1st Team were Cedric Jackson, Deontae Weaver, Shaq Rombley, and Kimani Binder. Jackson lead IRSC in scoring with a 17.8 average and scored double figures in 27 of the 30 games this season and had two games scoring 31 points.  Weaver was second on the team in scoring with 15.5 ppg and scored 19.5 ppg in conference.  He had 34 points against Palm Beach State College and scored 20 points ten times this season.  The leading rebounder and shot blocker for IRSC, Shaq Rombley recorded season averages of 7.5 ppg, 7.3 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks per game.  Binder was the only Pioneer freshmen selected to the All-Conference team and had averages of 12.2 ppg and 3.0 rebounds per game. 

Justin Tucker and Oliver Ehrnvall were selected to the Southern Conference 2nd Team.  Tucker recorded season highs of 27 points and 13 rebounds against ASA and scored in double figures eleven times this season.  Ehrnvall had season highs in rebounding with 18 against Miami Dade College and 15 against Palm Beach State College.  He scored 100 points on the season and pulled in 155 rebounds while also dishing out 55 assists. 

IRSC Head Coach Charlie Wilson also received recognition as the Southern Conference Coach of the Year.  Wilson's club finished the conference season with a 10-2 mark and 23-7 overall and will be playing in the FCSAA Championships on March 7th in Ocala, Florida at 6 p.m.  In only his third year at the helm, he has guided the Pioneers to a 57-32 overall record after taking over a team that did not win a conference game prior to his arrival.  He has coached 17 all-conference selections and 2 all-state members in his short time at The River.  "I'm really proud of our team and coaching staff, you don't receive these type of awards without them," pointed out Coach Wilson.
