Pioneers Defeat Palm Beach State For Their 18th Win
Five players scored in double figures for the IRSC men's team as they defeated Palm Beach State 100-83. Cedric Jackson led all scores with 26 points shooting a phenoninal 10 for 11 from the field and 6 for 7 from behind the three-point arc followed by Deontae Weaver and Anothony Brown who added 16, Kimani Binder 14, and Shaq Rombley tossed in 12. The Pioneers shot 61% from the field and 67% from the three-point line and dished out 31 assist, led by Brown with 11 and Weaver with 9.
IRSC fell behind early in the contest, but took the lead 28-26 with 8:28 to go in the first half on a Justin Tucker free-throw jumper. Deontae Weaver completed a four-point play when he connected on a three-point shot and was fouled as the shot clock was winding down pushing the lead to nine points, 44-35. Cedric Jackson closed out the half on a deep three-point bucket to keep the lead to eight, 51-43. The Pioneers continued their hot shooting in the second half and connected on seven three-point shots. The win moved IRSC's over-all record to 18-6 and 5-1 in the Southern Conference. The Pioneers will be in action on Tuesday for a home contest against ASA. Game time will be 7 p.m.
